Dear Brooklyn Avenue School Family,

It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome you to a new school year at Brooklyn Avenue School—the only school in East Los Angeles to be named a 2025 California Distinguished School and the only school in LAUSD to earn the California Platinum PBIS Award! These honors recognize our unwavering commitment to academic excellence and our students’ exceptional, continuous growth. Brooklyn Avenue is truly leading the way for student achievement in East LA.

On behalf of our entire staff, we look forward to a strong and productive partnership with you. We believe that when school and home work together, children thrive. As partners, we share the responsibility for your child’s success, and we will do our very best to meet that responsibility with care, high expectations, and love.

We kindly ask that you support your child’s learning by ensuring they:

1. Attend school daily and arrive on time, ready to learn

2. Complete all homework assignments given by teachers

3. Read daily to build a love of reading and improve literacy

4. Share school experiences with you to keep you informed

5. Ask for help when they need support in any subject

6. Know that you expect them to succeed in school and attend college

Throughout the school year, we will offer many opportunities for you to be involved. We encourage you to actively participate in helping all our children succeed by joining:

• Parent workshops

• Monthly Chat with the Principal meetings

• Schoolwide events like Literacy Night, Read Across America, STEM Night, and Career Day

• Student recognition celebrations

• Parent-teacher conferences
